If you have a big tree that appears to be diseased, then you’ll want to bring it to the arborist’s attention. When trees are diseased, they can be much more prone to crashing down in strong wind gusts, which could inflict injuries and property damage. At Sawtooth Tree Service, our local arborists are highly experienced with identifying tree diseases. Then we can accurately determine whether the tree can be saved or if it will need to be safely cut down to eliminate the risk of it toppling over during a windstorm. If you notice signs of any of the following four tree diseases, call up our Boise tree service.
Anthracnose is a fungal disease that causes dark spots on leaves. The leave may then fall off. While anthracnose doesn’t normally kill the tree outright, it can cause the tree’s health to worsen to the point that it becomes more susceptible to premature death. Trees that are particularly prone to anthracnose infections include maples, sycamores, and ashes.
This fungal disease infects the inner bark of pine trees, with lodgepole pines being especially affected by it. If you see orange bands around your pine tree’s bark, then it could be suffering from comandra blister rust. With this disease, the tree could start to grow into a deformed shape.
A sign that your tree has powdery mildew is that its leaves have white blotches that appear powdery or fuzzy. This fungal infection can affect a broad assortment of tree species. Although it doesn’t generally kill the tree, it can significantly degrade its health, with leaves potentially falling off.
This fungal disease is spread by bark beetles and often infects ponderosa pines. If your tree has small fruiting fungal bodies that are tan to cream colored, then pouch fungus may be present. Signs of pouch fungus are commonly seen on dead trees. So if your tree does have pouch fungus, there’s a good chance that it needs to be cut down because it has become more susceptible to crashing down.
